Utility Tarrifs To go up :New Rates takes Effect 1st September
This comes after the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) carried out Nationwide consultation on proposals from the Utility Companies.
Proposals were presented in May this year based on the regulator’s Guidelines.
Ghana Water Company proposed a 300 percent increment over the existing tariffs.
ECG proposed 148 percent. This takes effect on 1st September after PURC had finished accessing and granting the proposals.
This is all due to the utility companies proposing new tariffs mainly because to their inability to finance capital investments and the depreciation of their assets and exchange rate fluctuations.
What are your thoughts on the increment of existing tariffs?
