Many Ghanaians have learned about the past thanks to some old movies that have surfaced from the legendary visit of the late Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen of England, her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, and their children visited Cape Coast in 1961, and the video that went viral and captured the interest of most Ghanaians showed the chiefs there (where Fante is spoken) lining up one by one to present bars of gold to them.
British Pathe Film shared the footage, which was published on YouTube on April 13, 2014. The Queen and her husband were welcomed to the former capital of the Gold Coast with a beautiful durbar, as can be seen in the video, by the chiefs and people of Fantes.
The Fante leaders gave the British Crown a tiny palanquin made of solid gold, which was referred to as their main gift. A magnificently carved linguist’s staff made of solid gold was presented to the Duke of Edinburgh. A little gold sword in the shape of Queen Elizabeth II.
