Greenberg Traurig, LLP, based in New York City, has finally served Kanye West after months of trying. According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, Ye’s recently recruited attorney stated on February 1 that his client received the appropriate paperwork to end their partnership.
“On January 18, 2023, an attorney based in California contacted my firm advising that he would be representing ‘Ye on some of his legal matters,’” Greenberg Traurig attorney Nina D. Boyajian wrote in the docs. “During the course of several emails and a phone call with this attorney, I requested that he coordinate personal service of the Order on Ye.
On February 1, 2023, the attorney referenced above emailed me the executed Certificate of Service attached hereto as Exhibit A. I declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States of America that the foregoing is true and correct.”
Greenberg Traurig has gone to tremendous lengths—or attempted to go to great lengths—to locate Kanye West. They sought a judge last month for permission to publish an ad in multiple Los Angeles newspapers.
Soon after, US District Judge Analisa Torres ruled that Greenberg Traurig failed to make “diligent attempts” to find him. As a result, Torres turned down Greenberg Traurig’s request. Instead, Torres advised they employ a private detective to track down Kanye West. They did gain an extension, which plainly benefited them.
On November 30, 2022, Torres allowed Greenberg Traurig’s motion to resign as West’s counsel. Initially, the firm represented Kanye West in his legal struggle with Ultra International Music Publishing.
