Event organizers have verified that a 36-year-old man passed away after fainting during the London Marathon.
In the middle of the 26.2-mile race, between miles 23 and 24, the man from south-east England started to feel ill.
He received emergency care, and an ambulance was on the way in three minutes, but he passed away later in the hospital. His death’s cause is still unknown.
In a statement, London Marathon Events offered the man’s family and friends its “sincere sympathies.”
The organization stated that his family had asked for privacy at this time, adding that no other information will be disclosed in compliance with their wishes.
